The purpose of the work is to assist Zero Waste Scotland to gain an understanding of the issues and barriers surrounding resource efficiency and improved waste management at key events venues in Scotland. This project will inform and assist Zero Waste Scotland in the future development of support mechanisms that will enable the events sector, specifically events venues, to better manage waste and implement resource efficiency practices; as well as increase the recognition of the economic benefits of implementing such improvements.
The project will identify 10 – 15 key venues by capacity number and frequency of events. The identified venues will then be assessed to establish a baseline of measures that are currently used to prevent waste and increase recycling and resource efficiency; and to gauge awareness levels of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 and whether they are impacting on waste management strategies implemented by the venues.
Developing this baseline information will enable Zero Waste Scotland to create an appropriate package of support for the events sector that will assist in improving waste management, recycling and sustainability performance by event venues throughout Scotland.
