Why sustainable textiles?

Our report, Valuing Our Clothes: the cost of UK fashion details the environmental impact of the UK clothing industry and highlights opportunities for business to take action

Read "Valuing our clothes"
1.13 Mt 1,130,000 tonnes of clothing was purchased in the UK in 2016
26.2 Mt CO2e The carbon footprint of clothing in use in the UK was 26.2 million tonnes CO2e in 2016
1kg of cotton is created using an average of 10,000-20,000 litres of water
800,000 t of process waste from the UK clothing demand

The benefits are clear...

By reducing carbon, water and waste from the clothing supply chain, organisations can minimise their exposure to resource risk or scarcity, develop fresh revenue streams and gain reputational benefits from reducing their environmental impact.

What is WRAP doing?

WRAP is taking action to unlock these benefits for both organisations and their supply chain.

Our action plan

The Sustainable Clothing Action Plan (SCAP) brings together forward-thinking organisations from across the clothing supply chain to re-invent how clothes are designed and produced; to re-think how we value clothing by extending life of clothes; and to re-define what is possible through re-use and recycling.

Developed by a steering group of major retailers, brands, recyclers, sector bodies, NGOs and charities, SCAP enables organisations at all levels of the clothing and textiles industry to work together to measure and reduce their environmental footprints.
